The AGM was held prior to our February meeting at 2pm, where reports by the Secretary, Mrs Valerie Thomson, the Treasurer, Mrs Joyce Richardson and the Branch Leader, Mrs Ann Harris were read out.

From February 2016 Mrs Valerie Thomson has stepped down as Secretary so we now need to fill the post that Valerie has done so excellently for a number of years.

One of our members Mrs Mary Goulbourne has also stepped down from the Committee after many years, Thank you Valerie and Mary for all your hard work. If any members feel that they would like to join the Committee, or to be Secretary please contact me.

Following the AGM a talk "Our Rwanda Link" was given by Ann Harris as a tribute to the late Mothers' Union member, Mary Jones. The Committee dressed in bright coloured material that had come from Rwanda and one member wore a wedding dress. I talked of how from our Mothers' Union branch here in Ellesmere we came to have a Mothers' Union "Link" in Rwanda in Kigali the capital and Kilamaruzi from 1977 until the late 1990's. It all came about when Mary Jones' daughter married John who's grandparents and parents were missionaries in Rwanda. Johns mother was a member of Mothers' Union in Kigali and Kilamaruzi and so Mary started to correspond with their Mother's Union members.

Mostly the letters had to be translated in London, but over the years we had a wonderful insight into how life was in Rwanda.

We used to knit, sew, have rummage sales and send parcels of baby clothes, sewing materials etc, all collected and packed in St. Mary's Hall, we even sent Wedding Dresses which the girls used to like to get married in. In return they sent little gifts of basket ware that they had made. I was thanked by Mrs Heather Wright and presented with a lovely plant. Teas were served by Mrs Mary Goulbourne and Mrs Connie Mason.

On Saturday morning 5th March at l0am Mothers' Union will be making posies in Church ready for Mothering Sunday. The posies will be given out along with Mothering Cards by the children at the 10.15am Church service. Any members who would like to come and help or give a donation of flowers would be very welcome.

Our next meeting is a talk by Schools Christian Worker, Ben Mayho "Does Faith have a place in our Schools in the 21st Century"

With love,

Ann

Concluding our Mothers' Union year we held our Christmas Lunch on the 7th December at the Black Lion. We had an enjoyable meal in a very happy atmosphere. The Vicar led the prayers and carol singing. Many thanks to Connie and the Committee for organising the lunch. My thanks also to the Reverend Philip Edge for all the support and help he gives to Mothers' Union throughout the year.

December has been a busy month for Mothers' Union, Phylis Dean and Kath Meeks had knit a charming Nativity set which was displayed at Welsh Frankton Nativity Festival.

Two of our new members Tanya and Jo Garvin gave and decorated a lovely Christmas Tree entered in Ellesmere Methodist Christmas Tree Festival.

Mothers' Union members along with the Sunday School decorated 50 oranges for the Christingle Service held on December 20th in Church at which Mothers' Union presented a Noah's Ark, a Christmas present from Mothers' Union to the Sunday school. A fine Ark was made by an anonymous friend and our excellent and talented knitters, Joyce Richardson, Mavis Griffiths, Phylis Dean and Valerie Thomson, knitted delightful pairs of animals e.g. crocodile's, zebra's, monkey's, lion's, giraffe's, tortoise's, polar bears etc. etc.

Mary Goulbourne has stepped down from sending Birthday cards and I would like to thank Mary for all her much appreciated hard work.

Our 2016 programme done by Heather Wright is much varied and I am sure we will have a very enjoyable and exciting year, especially as this year Mother's Union is celebrating its 140th Anniversary. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the Month at the Town Hall 2pm. Anyone wishing to join would be most welcome, just come along. The annual subscription this year is £20.00 payable in January.

Wishing all our members a very Happy New Year.

With love,

Ann

At our meeting on November 16th our guest speaker was the Reverend Helen Morby of Kinnerly, whose talk "My Journey" told of how she became ordained. It was an inspiration to anyone who may be thinking of going down the same road. A vote of thanks was given by Mrs Kath Meeks who also presented the Reverend Helen with a plant.
Mrs Kath Meeks will retire at the end of this year as programme secretary, having served Mothers' Union for the last twelve and a half years organising speakers. Kath has done a wonderful job getting many varied and interested speakers but now feels she wold like to pass it over to someone else. Mrs Heather Wright will now be taking over from Kath as our programme secretary and has indeed organised this year's splendid programme. Heather presented Kath with a lovely plant and we thank Kath for the wonderful job she has done. Thank you Kath.

Our next meeting will be our lunch time Christmas meal at the Black Lion on the 7th December 12.30 for 1pm.

May I wish everyone peace and joy at Christmas and look forward to a great Mothers' Union year 2016.

Next year's subscription £20.00 will be due on the 1st of January.

With love and a happy Christmas

Ann

Some walked around the walls while others sat by the harbour and looked around the Medieval Church. We all had a lovely day and once again thanks to Connie for arranging yet another memorable outing.
