In March we held a members afternoon meeting. After prayers by the Vicar, our member Mrs Heather Wright brought card making materials and helped us all to make a lovely Easter Card. Everyone brought a posy of spring flowers, which they had made, posies were exchanged at the end of the meeting for us to take home. We had afternoon tea with delicious dainty little cakes made by Phyllis, Kath, Val, Heather and Joyce and served by Phyllis and Kath. Sadly our oldest and longest serving member Mrs Mary Jones passed away on 27th February 2015 at the amazing age of 101 years. Mothers' Union were represented at her funeral and I read about her work in Mothers' Union especially her "links" with Rwanda in the 1980's.

On Mothering Sunday we had a special Mothering Sunday Service, with a film about Mothers' Union work abroad. Our members had made 130 posies which were given out with Mothering cards by the children of the Sunday School. Posies were taken to Ellesmere House and Ellesmere Community Nursing Home.
Our next meeting is on 20th April, 2.00pm at the Town Hall with a talk by the Rev. Stella Lary on her "Previous work in Hostels".

At our January meeting the speaker was one of our own members Mrs Mavis Griffiths. Mavis, looking splendid in her colourful Indian Jacket, gave a wonderful and amusing talk on her holiday in India, illustrated by her fascinating film slides. A vote of thanks was given by Mrs Mary Goulboume and teas were served by Mrs Val Thomson and Mrs Heather Wright.

Our next meeting is February 16th, 2pm at the Town Hall. The meeting will start with a short A.G.M. followed by a talk on Mothers' Union "Theme for the Year" by our Deanery Leader Mrs Rosemary Horton.

Mothers' Union has a varied, interesting programme and great outings, anyone who would like to join would be most welcome.

December 8th was our Christmas Party, held once again at the Black Lion Hotel. We had a lovely Christmas meal together and sang Carols.

The final evening Mothers' Union meeting was held on November 26th in St. John's room. We enjoyed a delightful film on "Home around the World". Mothers' Union is making "home" for people by supporting families and communities in more then 78 countries. Sadly this evening meetings was to be our last for the time being due to members other commitments.

We have had a very eventful year, with a full and varied programme thanks to Mrs Kath Meeks. We have had a new treasurer, Mrs Joyce Richardson. Four new members were enrolled by our Diocesan President and two new members were welcomed from other Mothers' Union Branches. We had two very enjoyable "outings" thanks to Mrs Connie Mason and finally our youngest member Tanya had a beautiful baby boy, Matthew. Congratulations Tanya.

I would like to thank all our members and friends, and especially the Vicar the Rev. Philip Edge for all the help and support given to Mothers' Union.

This year we have another interesting programme beginning with a 'Talk and Film on India" by Mrs Mavis Griffiths at the Town Hall, January 19th at 2pm. Could I remind members the subscriptions £19.50 are now due.

Thank you to everyone and a very Happy New Year.

Yours with love,

Christine did some beautiful arrangements, with roses, carnations, lilies and other beautiful flowers which were raffled off afterwards to the members. Teas were served by Mrs Connie Mason and Mrs Susan Francis. Our next event will be the Christmas Party held at the Black Lion on December 8th 6.30pm for 7.00pm. The Children's Society Christingle Service will be held in Church on Sunday morning of December 21st at 10.15am, with Christingles made by our Mothers' Union Members. On arriving at Holy Trinity Church we had a short service of Mothers' Union afternoon prayers led by our own vicar The Rev. On September 24th we had a fascinating talk by Mrs Estelle Parker about a family from our church who lived 600 years ago. A girl getting married and giving birth to a Son and all the perils and dangers of Childbirth and the hardships of living such a long time ago in Ellesmere. The family came to St. mary's, the son was a clever little boy who learned not only to read but to write. When he eventually died he was buried in the floor of St. Anne's Chapel, where his tombstone remains today.

The next evening meeting is on October 22nd at 7.30pm in St. John's Room with a Mothers' Union film on Homes.

At the March meeting Mrs Ann Harris, Branch Leader gave an interesting and amusing talk on the “History of Ellesmere Mothers’ Union” starting in 1906.  The talk was taken from snippets from old record books that Mrs Mary Jones had given to her.  Sadly, the  Temperance Rooms, Trimpley Hall and St. Mary’s Hall have all passed into history and The Old Vicarage, where afternoon teas, garden parties and fetes were held—Sold !, but in spite of all that the Mothers’ Union is still very much alive and thriving.  Many of the old scrap books were displayed and tea and delicious dainty little cakes made by Kath, Val and Phyllis were served.  The vote of thanks and a lovely basket of flowers were given to Ann by Mrs Kath Meeks.  The next afternoon meeting in the Town Hall at 2pm will be a talk on "Adult Literacy" by the Rev.
