S. Mary's Church News December 2016

The re-launched Shoppers Lunch took place at the Town Hall on Friday 4th November. This was a joint event between S.Mary's and the North Shropshire Supporters of Age UK and, for the church, took the place of the Autumn Fayre.
Over 100 diners were served a magnificent spread of home cooked main courses, salads, sweets and cheese and biscuits by volunteers from the church and Age UK and were joined by Kirsty and Chris from Tesco.
Thanks must go to everyone who provided food, to Tesco for providing salads and many other ingredients, Ellesmere College for the loan of crockery and cutlery and some of the food and to those who provided raffle prizes: ABP meats, Belton Cheese, The Boathouse, Lily the Pink, Wendy Lloyd Jewellery, Motors, and Morris, Cook and Co.
The event was a great success, providing an enjoyable social occasion for lots of local people and raising over £1800 for the two charities.
This brings the total raised so far since April by the fundraising team to over £6000 (which includes a final magnificent total of over £800 from Jeremy Stretton's bungee jump in October) and we are very grateful to everyone for their continued support.
GRAND DRAW & CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING
This will take place on Saturday 3rd December starting at 10.30am until 12.00 noon at Ellesmere Town Hall.
Join us for festive mince pies, coffee and a glass of sherry. The prize winners for our Annual Grand Draw will be announced. Buy your tickets for the opportunity to win a £50 first prize and over 30 other quality prizes.
Tickets are still available from Anne Edge and will be available on the day.
200 CLUB UPDATE
The 200 club aims to raise funds for those 'extras' for the church which the normal budget will not allow. The annual subscription of £10 (which is due in February) has traditionally been collected by a small group of volunteers who visit everyone to collect their subscription.
In an effort to try to reduce the workload, we are introducing Standing Orders in 2017 for the 200 club subscription. Further details and a standing order form will be available in the January magazine and we hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to set up a standing order.
Confirmation Service at S.Mary's.
The Bishop of Shrewsbury will be in Ellesmere on Sunday 11th December to conduct the Deanery Confirmation Service. Young adults from S. Mary's and some of the other of the fourteen churches in the Ellesmere Deanery will be presented to the Bishop for Confirmation in what is a very significant step.
