S. Mary's Church News January 2017

Our Grand Draw and Festive Coffee morning held on Saturday 3rd December at The Town Hall attracted a large crowd and with no less than 39 excellent prizes there was a good chance of being a winner.

There were also gifts, cards, jams and preserves for sale and the event raised £1,325 for church funds.

Thanks must go to Anne Edge for masterminding draw ticket sales and Beryl Gilbert for helping with the raffle on the day and to all the local organisations, businesses and individuals who so generously donated prizes.

Jeremy Stretton deserves special thanks for coordinating the collection of prizes.

The Bishop of Shrewsbury Mark Rylands visited S. Marys' on Sunday 11th December to officiate at the Deanery Confirmation service.

23 candidates from some of the 14 churches in the Ellesmere Deanery were confirmed including a number of young people from S. Mary's. The service was very well attended and enjoyed by all. Congratulations to all those Confirmed on the day.

The fundraising team have been busy planning next years fundraising and social events. Please see the Schedule of Dates. In addition to our usual events we have plans to repeat the very successful garden trail in June - but to open gardens in other parts of the town and with our friends from Age UK NSS to repeat the Shoppers' Lunch in November.

We are also very pleased to confirm that after the success of a Last Night of The Proms concert held at S. Mary's in 2014, The Shrewsbury Light Orchestra have agreed to play at another concert in the Church on Saturday 14th October 2017 and will be joined by the Ellesmere College Choral Society and Choirs under the direction of Head of Music Tony Coupe. This promises to be a very special evening of music and tickets are certain to be in great demand.
