Afternoon M.U. Group

At the February meeting Mrs Beryl Metcalf, co-ordinator of the Mothers' Union Faith & Policy unit on "Campaigning", gave an interesting talk, mainly on women's' issues, such as domestic violence and safety on the internet for children which is difficult to control as well as being very careful and aware about what is published on Facebook. The Vote of Thanks was given by Mary Goulbourne. Teas were served by Mrs Phyllis Dean and Mrs Heather Wright. The next afternoon meeting will be in the Town Hall on March 17th when Mrs Ann Harris will show some of the group's many old scrap books. Tea and cake will be served.

At the February evening meeting Ann Harris welcomed the speaker Rosemary Craven who gave a talk on recent conflicts in the World. She opened with a reading from the Bible and a lively discussion followed.

The next evening meeting will be on March 26th starting 7.30pm in St. John's Room with a talk on counselling by Mrs Meg Wilkes. Mothering Sunday will be celebrated on March 30th at St. Mary's Church at 10.1Sam. This will be a special service taken by members of the Mothers' Union, with posies and cards given our by the Sunday School.

Yours with love,

Ann

Afternoon M.U. Group

At the start of the New Year, at our afternoon meeting, it was so encouraging to see such a good number of our members, and also to welcome several new members. Thank you all so much for supporting me in my new role as Branch Leader.

The Rev. Stephen Harrop, Vicar of Welshampton, Cockshutt and Colemere, spoke about his work as a Prison Chaplain, the Rev. Stephen gave a very interesting and fascinating insight into Prison life at a privately run men's prison in the Manchester area at which he worked for five years. William Parker gave the Vote of Thanks, letting us into a little secret of the night he spent in a Police Cell !

Teas were served by Mrs Valerie Thomson and Mrs Joyce Richardson.

The next afternoon meeting will be in the Town Hall on 17th February at 2pm, with Mrs Beryl Metcalf M.U., giving a talk on campaigning.

The next evening meeting will be on 26th February 7.30 in St. Johns Room, with a talk by Mrs Anne Edge on Hope House.

Yours with love,

Ann

We had our afternoon meeting on 18th November when we had our AGM. The results of the nominations for Branch Leader, were unanimous votes for Mrs Ann Harris, which she was happy to accept. Congratulations to Ann, we will give her our support and prayers.

Our speaker for this meeting was Gill Leach who gave an interesting talk on marketing and a quiz on Mothers' Union facts.

The Christmas Party is on 9th December at the Black Lion. The cost will be £13.00 for a 3 course meal plus coffee and mince pie. The cut off time for money and menu choices is the 2nd November. January 2014

A message from our new Branch Leader, Ann Harris

I, Ann Harris have been elected as the new Branch Leader of Mothers' Union, Ellesmere and will take up my position as from January 2014.

I will be commissioned at the Family Service on January 19th at St. Mary's by the Vicar Rev. Philip Edge and would really appreciate members to come and support me on this occasion.

It will be a hard task to follow all the hard work of our late branch leader, Jo and the splendid job she did as Leader, but with your support and the excellent committee that we have, I will do my best.

Yours in love and fellowship,

Ann

We did not have a meeting in December, but we did have our Christmas Party at the Black Lion. We had an enjoyable meal, rounded off by singing a few Christmas Carols. It was nice to see members and friends who support our events. We hope you enjoyed it, and thanks were given to Connie Mason by Ann for organising this event. We would like to thank all who helped make Christingles, its good to have the help of St. Mary's Club.

The subscriptions for next year will be £19 and it would be helpful if this could be paid at the January meeting, as we have to pay all subscriptions over to the diocese before the end of February. The next afternoon meeting will be on January 20th at 2.00pm at the Town Hall, when the speaker will be the Rev. Stephen Harrop on his time as a Prison Chaplain.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year

Yours in fellowship,

Kath Meeks

I would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who supplied cakes and supported us at MU cake staff at the Autumn Fayre. We made £159 which is a magnificent contribution to Church funds.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Save the Family talk did not take place on October 21st. Nonetheless, everyone enjoyed a delightful afternoon with tea, coffee and a chat with friends.

On November 18th the afternoon meeting will start a little earlier at 1.45pm as we will be having the AGM meeting first. Jill Leah will give us a talk on the wider picture of MU Marketing.

The Christmas Party will be on Monday 9th December at the Black Lion, 6.30pm for 7.00pm. The cost will be £13 for a 3 course meal plus coffee and mince pie. Money will need to be in by 2nd December, the cut off time for the menu choices. Please contact Connie Mason on 01948 780309 or any MU committee member. As always non members are very welcome to attend this event.
