On November 17th we had a lovely relaxing afternoon. Mrs Christine Howard did "Flower Arranging with a Christmas Theme". Christine did some beautiful arrangements, with roses, carnations, lilies and other beautiful flowers which were raffled off afterwards to the members. Teas were served by Mrs Connie Mason and Mrs Susan Francis. Our next event will be the Christmas Party held at the Black Lion on December 8th 6.30pm for 7.00pm. The Children's Society Christingle Service will be held in Church on Sunday morning of December 21st at 10.15am, with Christingles made by our Mothers' Union Members. The difference that Christingle makes to the lives of children in poverty is amazing. Everyone is very welcome, please do come. The next Mothers' Union meeting will be held at the Town Hall on January 19th with a talk and film on "India" by Mrs Mavis Griffiths.

Next Year's Programmes are now available and the subscriptions for the year, due in January, will be £19.50

October 18th at the Autumn Fayre, Mothers' Union once again had a fantastic cake stall, manned by Kath and Phyllis, raising £102.50 for Church Funds. Well done, many thanks also to all our other Mothers' Union members who helped in making the Church Autumn fayre a success.

Afternoon Mothers' Union Group

October 20th we had another very interesting talk by Mr Rodney Upton on "The update of the Church Bells". Rodney showed a film of the bells being taken out of the Bell Tower manually by block and tackle hoists, the first time since 1799, restored, retuned and being returned to Church, an amazing project. A vote of thanks was given by Mrs Mavis Griffiths. Teas were served by Mrs Pam Edwards and Mrs Kath Meeks.

The next Mothers' Union meeting will be at the Town Hall, November 17th at 2:00pm, when our speaker will be Mrs Christine Howard with "Flower Arrangements on a Christmas Theme". December 8th will be our Christmas party held at the Black Lion 6:30pm for 7:00pm. For details please contact Mrs Connie Mason on 01948 780309.

August 14th was our annual Church Service. This year it was a special Membership Celebration Service at which four new members were enrolled by the Diocesan President, Mrs Elizabeth Binsley.

The four new members were Joyce Richardson, Heather Wright, Helen Grimes and Susan Frances. Susan Harman was also welcomed into our Branch from her previous Branch in Lancashire. We were joined by members of Brewood Mothers' Union and also members of Welsh Frankton and Welshampton Mothers' Union.

The Diocesan President Mrs Elizabeth Binsley was our guest speaker and gave a very informative talk with DVD about the work of the Mothers' Union overseas and also in this Country. Refreshments were served in St. John's Room by our Committee.

September 15th will be our Mystery Outing. The next evening meeting of Mothers' Union will be on September 24th at 7.30pm in St John's room with a talk on "Church and Families" by Mrs Estelle Parker.

September 15th was our Mystery Outing. A full coach of members and friends set out from Ellesmere at 11am and arrived at the delightful town of Eccleshall in Staffordshire at 12 pm. On arriving at Holy Trinity Church we had a short service of Mothers' Union afternoon prayers led by our own vicar The Rev. Philip Edge, followed by a lovely lunch in the Church Hall prepared by ladies from the Church. After lunch we had a most interesting guide and talk on the history of Holy Trinity Church, which dates from 1195. Thank you to Mrs Connie Mason for arranging such a memorable outing. The next Mothers' Union afternoon meeting will be on October 20th in the Town Hall at 2pm with a talk by Mr Rodney Upton "The Update of the Church Bells".

Evening Mothers' Union Group (eMUs)

On September 24th we had a fascinating talk by Mrs Estelle Parker about a family from our church who lived 600 years ago. A girl getting married and giving birth to a Son and all the perils and dangers of Childbirth and the hardships of living such a long time ago in Ellesmere. The family came to St. mary's, the son was a clever little boy who learned not only to read but to write. When he eventually died he was buried in the floor of St. Anne's Chapel, where his tombstone remains today.

The next evening meeting is on October 22nd at 7.30pm in St. John's Room with a Mothers' Union film on Homes.
