November 2010

Once again we had the task of running the cake stall at the Autumn Market. We had lots of beautiful cakes for sale and every single item was sold. This raised £171.70 for church funds (£20 more than last year.) Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this excellent result.

We do not have our regular meeting in November but the Mothers Union Diocesan Council is meeting in Ellesmere Town Hall on 8 November (not 15 November as stated in the programme). The speaker for the afternoon session, which begins at 1.45 pm, will be Fiona Thomas, Communications Officer, Mary Sumner House and all members are welcome to attend.

Tickets are now available for our Christmas Party on Monday, 13 December at the La Belle Vie. This consists of 3-course meal, with a complimentary glass of sherry for a price of £11 (with £1 discount for MU members). As always, non-members will be very welcome.

I have been trying for some time to interest younger women in Mothers’ Union and have met with some success and hope to set up a programme of evening meetings. There will be a meeting on 18 November in St John’s Room at 7.30 pm to discuss this. While this meeting is primarily aimed at younger women, all members are, of course, welcome to attend.

Yours in love and fellowship.

October 2010

We did not have a meeting in September, but we did have our mystery outing on 20 September. After an excellent lunch, we visited the church of St Michael in Stone where we had a short service of prayers followed by a talk on the history of the church. We had time to look round the church (and some intrepid members of our party climbed the tower) before our visit was rounded off nicely by tea and biscuits provided by the local MU. Thanks to Connie for organising yet another successful and enjoyable trip.

Once again we have been asked to run the cake stall at the Autumn Market on 16 October. Any offers of cakes and help on the day will be very welcome. It would be great to be able match, or even to beat, last year's magnificent total of £150.

Our next meeting is on 18 October at 2.00 pm at the Town Hall when our speaker will be the Vicar.

Yours in love and fellowship.

July 2010

We did not have a meeting in May, but we did, of course, have our mystery outing on 21 June. Our destination was Birmingham and we were once again blessed with wonderful weather. Members and friends were able to explore the city centre with it's shops, museums, cathedral and canals. Thre were, of course, plenty of places to eat and drink and I hope that everyone had an interesting and enjoyable day,

Our next meeting will be on Monday, 19 July at the Town Hall at 2.00 pm when our speaker is Mrs Bette Rich, who is a Mothers' Union speaker.

As there will be no Parish magazine next month, I would like to remind members that on 16 August, instead of a meeting, we will be having a service in church at 2.00 pm followed by afternoon tea.

Yours in love and fellowship.

September 2010

The speaker at our July meeting was Mrs Bette Rich, who gave an interesting talk on the Mothers' Union theme for the year "Relationships not rules".

In August, instead of our monthly meeting we had a service in church at which our Deanery Leader, Rosemary Horton, gave an inspiring and moving talk showing how the work of Mothers' Union really changes life for the better for women around the world. The service was followed by afternoon tea in St John's Room. I hope everyone enjoyed this occasion as much as I did.

We do not have a meeting in September but we do, of course, have our mystery trip on 20th September. We will be leaving Ellesmere at 10.30am and returning to Ellesmere at approximately 5.00pm. The cost for this trip, which includes a 2 course lunch, is £18 (with £1 discount for members). This does not include tea or coffee, which is £1.50 extra. For further details, please contact Connie Mason or any MU Committee member.

Our next meeting is on 18th October at 2.00pm at the Town Hall when our speaker will be the Vicar.

Yours in love and fellowship.

June 2010

Corporate Communion Sunday 6th June at 10.15 am

At our May meeting we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea withmusic at our Palm Court Surprise. I would like to record special thanks to Ann Harris whose idea this was, and who worked so hard to make it a success end also to Malcolm Powell who gave his time so generously to provide the music for this occasion. Thanks, too, to those who made the sandwiches end cakes and to all the committee for their various contributions to this lovely afternoon's entertainment.

Several members attended the Deanery Festival this year at Cockshutt church on 19 May. As always, this was a lovely service.

We do not have a service in June, but we do, of course, have our mystery trip on 21 June - This costs £10, and leaves Ellesmere at 9.30 am, arriving back in Ellesmere at approximately 6.00 p.m. Please contact Connie Mason or any committee member if you wish to go.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, 19 July at the Town Hall at 2.00 pm when our speaker is Mrs Bette Rich, who is Mothers Union speaker.

Yours in love and fellowship.
