As I write this article Christmas is almost upon us. Our preparations are almost done. We have kept Advent. And now we are looking forward to celebrating Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world. Of light coming into our dark world. Of Hope and Joy and Peace which we so badly need. News from the Vicarage - November 2010

Dear Friends

The clocks have changed, the hours of darkness are getting longer, the trees have lost their leaves and winter is setting in. November is not necessarily the most cheerful of months. We begin by remembering the departed. First on the 1st Nov with All Saints Day (or as we are keeping it this year All Saints Sunday 31st Oct). Then all the faithful departed on All Souls Day especially those who have passed away more recently. Names are read out at our All Souls service 6.30pm Sunday 31st Oct and will remember them again on 2nd Nov All Souls Day. Then we remember all those fallen in war on Remembrance Sunday 14th Nov starting at 10.45am at the War Memorial when we read out the names of those killed in the First and Second World Wars. This year we will be mindful of all those killed and wounded in Afghanistan. The poppy is a very poignant symbol of all those killed in war and we wear them with pride.

Dear Friends

We start this month of October with Harvest. We have our Harvest Supper, which is always a great occasion, on Friday 1st Oct. On Sunday 3rd Oct is our Harvest Festival at 10.15am. Decorations and gifts for Harvest would be much appreciated.
