Prayer for our Alpha course

O God, we are about to start something new. We believe that it is what you would like us to do. In our most confident moments we think that we can do it well, but sometimes we are not so sure.

You know the risks, God, and you know our weaknesses and our strengths. Keep us from confusion. Guard us from either pride or fear. Keep our hearts and minds open to you and to each other.

May we know the happiness of working together for you and the quiet joy of doing our best.

St Mary's Club

St Mary's Club meets in St John's Room each Sunday during term time from 10.15 am until 11.30 am when parents collect the children. Children from the age of four can join St Mary's Club to learn and understand Christian ways and to be members of the church.

They take an active part in Family Services which take place on the third Sunday of each month, when St Marys Club members read the lessons, welcome people to church, lead the intercessions and take the collection.

Palm Sunday and Easter is a very special time for the children when they create the Easter Garden and take a major part in the worship.

At Christmas they present a play as part of the Crib Service on Christmas Eve.

During the year the children are taken to the pantomime, on a summer outing and have a party to start off the new school year. At the end of the year all the children receive a prize.

All of the leaders and helpers have CRB clearance and most of them are parents of the children.
We look forward to welcoming new children as members of the club, and likewise welcome adults to join us as helpers.

The Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation which promotes the well-being of families worldwide.

In the Ellesmere Branch of the Mothers Union we have a lively, friendly fellowship. As well as having an interesting programme of speakers, trips and social events, we are involved in a number of local projects, for example providing toiletries for women in a local Women’s Refuge, making story sacks for a local playgroup, and knitting for premature babies.

We meet on the second Monday of each month in St John’s Room at 2.00 pm.

You do not have to be a mother to be a member of Mothers Union, as membership is open to anyone (male or female) who has been baptised in the name of the Holy Trinity.

Loving Lord, we thank you for your love so freely given to us all. We pray for families around the world. Bless the work of the Mothers' Union as we seek to share your love through the encouragement strengthening and support of marriage and family life. Empowered by your spirit, may we be united in prayer and worship, and in love and service, reach out as your hands across the world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer of thanks for God's light

Father of all creation,
Thank you for signs of life and light, even in the dark and sometimes difficult days of winter. Thank you for Jesus' victory over darkness and death - and for the assurance that, if we put our trust in Him - nothing can ever separate us from you.
Help us to hold onto the hope you have given us and to walk on with Jesus as our guiding light. And may His light attract others who don't yet know Him and whom the darkness threatens to overwhelm.
Shine on us, Lord, that we may reflect your light and receive your peace.
In Jesus's name.
